NWRL: issues of single-deck versus double-deck trains
Action for Public Transport's representative recently met the North West Rail Link (NWRL) team to discuss issues relating to the choice between single deck and double deck trains.

While several matters have been usefully resolved, other areas remain unresolved due to either not being considered or a lack of publicly available information.  In particular:
<ul>
<li>Single deck train capacity has been benchmarked against existing double deck train operations rather than what could be achieved with modern train management.
<li>The assumed operational nexus between the NWRL and a future cross-harbour and CBD link has not been explained or justified.
<li>The methodology used for balancing more passengers standing, and a higher standing density, in single deck trains against benefits has not been revealed, although the NWRL Team offered to consider what could be provided.
<li>The impact of network opportunities foregone by not allowing a future conversion to double deck operation on the NWRL has not been explained.
