Public transport which doesn't get delayed by traffic congestion and which doesn't need timetables is a big advance for Sydney, says Action for Public Transport.
"Other factors make it easier and faster for people who don't normally use public transport," APTNSW spokesman, Allan Miles, said.
"Readily identifiable vehicles and bus stops, quality on-street and on-board route and stopping information, and drivers dedicated to driving, instead of selling tickets and acting as Sydney's tourist guides, are all part of the package," Mr Miles said.
Mr Miles complimented Sydney Buses on having the determination to drive innovation in public transport, in a city which is still dedicated to the car.
"Less committed transit professionals might have just given up," he said. "The combination of more bus lanes, pre-paid tickets, and high capacity, standing-room-only, buses seems to show that more people can be moved faster, without the high cost and construction disturbance of rail-based transit", Mr Miles said.
The Route 10, using a new red colour scheme, and high-capacity articulated buses, runs between Kingsford and Leichhardt, via Park Street in the city.
