Eastern Suburbs buses - minor changes planned - comment invited
State Transit is planning minor changes to some Eastern Suburbs
routes and is inviting community comment. Information is available on
the Sydney Buses website at
http://www.sydneybuses.info/busmart/.
One hundred thousand brochures have also
been distributed. Submissions should be lodged by 25 July 2008, to
busnetworkupdate@sta.nsw.gov.au
or STA, Reply Paid 2132, Strawberry Hills PO, 2010.
The review is in compliance with State Transit's contract for "Region
9" services, which includes the development of the Strategic Bus
Corridor between Bondi and Hurstville, an outcome of the "Unsworth"
bus reform measures. In this context, a new Route 303 is proposed
between Bondi Junction and Sans Souci, via University of NSW. The
rapidly developing residential area around Green Square has been
addressed, as has late-running and congestion problems for Route 311
between Kings Cross and the City.
STA has assured APT that the proposed changes do not represent an
attempt to reduce costs and that the new arrangements will be
"kilometre-neutral". Nor are the changes in response to the recently
introduced free "Village to Village" Community Bus services in the
inner Eastern Suburbs.
Lord Mayor and local MP, Clover Moore, has expressed strong
disapproval of the proposed changes to the Route 311.
