Dear Mr Forward,
Thank you for your invitation to make a submission to the government's transport "Blueprint" plan. On this occasion we decline.
The present government has had at least a decade to plan and implement effective, integrated, transport and land-use policies and has failed to do so. For a particular comment on this failure, see our comments at http://www.aptnsw.org.au/documents/InnerWestPlan1.html
Nor are the government's planning and transport agencies free of guilt. There have been a number of public scandals involving the agencies that could have and should have been avoided by professional individuals having the public interest as a prime consideration. We also hold the professional Associations responsible. They would have had the early detailed knowledge of circumstances and events which would have enabled them to take decisive and discreet action before matters got out of hand.
The timing of the Blueprint proposal also causes us to be sceptical. We are of the opinion that at this stage of the electoral cycle, any submissions of goodwill toward the public interest would be over-ridden in the process of development of the plan by the government's priorities for re-election.
Yours faithfully
Allan Miles
