APTNSW asks Minister to delay Newcastle rail closure

A NSW Legislative Council select committee on the planning process in Newcastle and the broader Hunter region has been created. Its terms of reference include aspects of the decision to truncate the Newcastle branch railway at Wickham and construct light rail. The inquiry's home page is http://www.parliament.nsw.gov.au/newcastleplanning and it has called for public submissions by 24 October 2014.

Action for Public Transport has written to the Minister asking that in view of what the select committee might uncover about that decision, she cease Newcastle curtailment works pending findings of the select committee.
