Allan Miles, secretary of Action for Public Transport (APT), said that the increases are small, but there are savings available.
"All single bus tickets will increase by ten cents," he said, "and TravelTens by 80 cents. "These can be bought now at the current price," he said, "and saved up for future use."
Mr Miles said that TravelTens are a good idea at any time, because they save 20 % from the cost of ten single tickets. "They also save time when you get on the bus," he said.
"The MyMulti weeklies will also increase by $1.00 each," Mr Miles said, "and if bought undated from a newsagent, they can be kept and used any at any time in the future."
Mr Miles said that the size of the increases, ranging from 2% to 5%, is reasonable, and necessary to cover the increasing costs of the service providers.
"One disappointment with the new fare scales," Mr Miles said, "is the failure once again to introduce a suburban version of the MyMulti DayPass." Mr Miles said that the current all-modes all-zones DayPass is great value for tourists at $21 (increasing to $22) but is too expensive for a person making a multi-point journey around town. "Anything more than a simple there-and-back journey becomes complicated, expensive and time wasting," he said, "as a separate ticket has to be bought for each stage of the journey."
