NEWS RELEASE: Bus passengers say dodgy accounting used to raise fares

posted Friday 1 January 2010
APT has complained to the government that the higher bus fares commencing on 3 January 2010 do not serve the public interest. They are based on the cost of providing the buses, rather than on maximising the efficiency of the transport network. Such calculations are written into the Passenger Transport Act which the fare-setting authority, the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Authority (IPART) is obliged to follow. Passengers are further disadvantaged by IPART's lack of transport expertise. Our full news release can be seen here.
