"The government has lodged a schedule of fares with the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART)", said APTNSW spokesman, Allan Miles, "but these are open for comment from the public before a final decision is made by IPART."
Mr Miles said that increases of about five percent were planned for single bus fares and for TravelTens. However, he said that the popular multi-mode TravelPass ticket is still under sustained attack from the government.
"Price increases for TravelPass tickets range from 6.3 percent for the 2-Zone ticket to a whopping 18.1 percent for the Blue TravelPass (from $32 to $38)", Mr Miles said. Other increases include 15.0 percent ($40 to $46) for the Orange TravelPass, 11.4 percent for the Red TravelPass ($35 to $39) and over 10 percent for the Purple and Pittwater TravelPasses.
Mr Miles said that these increases were based on false assumptions by the government about usage patterns. "The government is using outmoded "pay-for-distance" theory to strangle free movement of people by public transport around Sydney. The people need greater, not less access to zone tickets," he said.
