Public Votes Against Rail Fare Rise

posted Tuesday 14 August 2007
The Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) has received 194 submissions from the public concerning the proposal by CityRail to increase rail fares from later this year. APT has not read all of the submissions, but is confident in saying that all but two or three reject any rise at all. The overwhelming response is that services have not improved as claimed by CityRail, despite past increases having been awarded for that specific purpose, and that customers will not pay more until they see some improvement. The submissions can be viewed on IPART's web site.

IPART is preparing a discussion paper based on the themes raised, and a Public Hearing will be held at IPART's offices on Wednesday 5th September from 9.30 am. Major stakeholders will give presentations, and, if time is available, questions or comments will be taken from the public.
