Broadway Upgrade

posted Friday 13 April 2007
Sydney City Council has advised APT that the development consent for the works to upgrade Broadway has lapsed and that the City does not intend to implement the scheme for Broadway as approved in the 2004 Development Application (DA D/2003/492).

APT and other parties had objected to parts of the scheme, especially those which would relocate bus stops and bus routes to places less convenient for bus users. The worst case was the plan to move the inbound bus stop from west of Mountain Street to east of Mountain Street, requiring most bus users to cross two streets to access the Broadway Shopping Centre.

The Council advised that the City's current Capital Works Program does include a project for Broadway's upgrading with a budget of approximately $6.0m. The works will need to take into account of recommended changes to Broadway as part of the redevelopment of the CUB site. This new project is scheduled to be initiated in May this year, and new proposals will be developed in consultation with community and key stakeholders such as the RTA and STA.
