"Light rail for Sydney" - Seminar, Tues. 7 March 2006

posted Wednesday 1 March 2006
Research Perspectives on Light Rail for Sydney

A free lecture by Professor Graham Currie, Chair of Public Transport, Monash University (Vic)

Date: Tuesday 7 March

Time: 11am (refreshments from 10.45am)

Venue: Lecture Theatre 2, Level 2, ITLS, Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Sydney, 144 Burren Street, Newtown (Just North of Macdonaldtown Station)

This presentation reviews the author’s research designed to provide an evidential basis for often polarised debates in public transport. In this case the context is the Sydney Light Rail debate. The research includes a 'meta' study of behavioural research on how passengers value trip attributes of LRT vs bus travel, a review of the challenges of Melbourne’s streetcars and a comparative assessment of LRT/bus impacts on transit oriented development. The findings are far from conclusive with regard to the Sydney LRT debate however they point the way to what is and isn’t required for quality public transport futures.

Professor Currie's presentation may be viewed at http://www.itls.usyd.edu.au/seminars/presentations/grahamc.pdf.

Seminars are usually 1 hour in duration, including time for Q&A. All seminars at ITLS-Sydney are free,
