Westbus company sold

posted Friday 23 September 2005
Singapore-based ComfortDelGro and Cabcharge Australia have formed a partnership to buy the financially troubled Westbus for $106.7 million.

Westbus began running bus services in Sydney’s western suburbs in 1955 and went into liquidation in January 2005. More than 90 expressions of interest were received to acquire the company.

The sale involves a fleet of 614 vehicles and the transfer of 915 employees.

ComfortDelGro is the world’s second largest listed land transport company, with a fleet of more than 38 000 buses, taxis, and rental and leased vehicles.
