Tcard and fares policy

After many years of frustration APTNSW has finally managed to commence discussions with Sydney train operator RailCorp regarding the impact of the proposed electronic smartcard ticket, “Tcard”, on ticketing policy. On 22 July we met with RailCorp’s Ticketing Systems and Policy General Manager for some frank discussions about what we wanted from the new tickets and what RailCorp was intending to offer. Previous customer briefings on Tcard have been frustrating because they focused on what the new ticket was technologically capable of offering, rather than what the transport authorities were actually going to provide.

Ticketing policies are still being developed. The preferred options will require executive approval before being made public so we cannot go into detail here. However, APTNSW is reasonably happy with RailCorp’s consideration of the passenger-related issues and we will meet with RailCorp again as the policy development progresses.
