Heritage issues - Gordon Station, Manly Wharf

posted Monday 19 January 2004
Proposed building developments at Gordon Station and Manly ferry wharf are likely to impact on the heritage values of the buildings.

In newspaper advertisements, the Heritage Council of NSW refers to plans to modify the steel girders of the Gordon Station footbridge (SMH, 13.12.03). The modification involves "the incision of broad narrow notches to the bottom of the girders" [sic]. The Council says the modifications would "materially affect the significance of the subject site as an item of environmental heritage".

The Council issues the same warning (SMH, 16.1.04) regarding upgrading works at Manly Wharf, intended to improve ferry operations. Plans may be inspected at the Heritage Council office at 3 Marist Place, Parramatta, phone 9873 8588. Submissions regarding the wharf may be addressed to the Council at Locked Bag 5020, Parramatta 2124, and must be delivered by 6 February 2004.
