Liverpool - Parramatta Transitway

posted Wednesday 11 September 2002
The Liverpool – Bonnyrigg - Parramatta bus-only Transitway is scheduled to commence limited operation in mid February 2003. On opening, only 21 of the 35 stations will be completed, but all 35 will be in use. The remaining 14 stations will be completed by December 2003. Ultimately, all will have real-time bus information displays and security "Help Points", supported by closed circuit television (CCTV) monitoring.

Trunk route buses (those confined to the T-way) will be provided by a State Transit subsidiary. They will be gas powered, have low floors, and front, side and rear destination displays. They will have an operational maximum speed of 70kph. The livery will be blue, white and yellow, with prominent "T-way" branding. There is to be no externally applied advertising, either to the body panels or the windows, as is now common on the State Transit's existing fleet.

Of the 60-odd signal-controlled intersections on the 39 km route, about one third will accept an approaching bus without the bus having to slow or stop, using bus-priority techniques.

T-ways has announced that buses will run until 1am on Thurs, Fri and Sat nights, and 11.30pm on other nights.

Further information appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald of 9 September, and a clarification from the Minister appeared as a letter to the editor on 10 September. The T-way information phone line is 1800 335 742.
